First blanket ever

A while ago I came across with a Youtube tutorial that I fell in love with. It seemed doable even for beginners like me so I decided to give it a try.

Hace un tiempo vi un tutorial en youtube que me encantó. Como parecía fácil hasta para novatos como yo, decidí probar.

Honestly, it was kind of hypnotic to watch and even without the audios it was easy to follow. I drew a quick scheme cause I wanted to use a lot of colours and I didn't want to accidentally have two of the same colour side by side. I spent the following weeks knitting squares while watching TV and Youtube. I felt a little bit stressed out and anxious at that time and it really helped me a lot. It was relaxing and I had to be focused to do it right so I found myself not really thinking about anything else while doing so.

La verdad es que es casi hipnótico e incluso sin el audio pueden entenderse todos los procesos. Me hice un pequeño esquema de cómo quería ir cuadrando los colores de los cuadrados (sobretodo para que no quedaran dos del mismo color contiguos) y me puse manos a la obra. Estuve una temporada tejiendo cuadraditos mientras veía la tele, Youtube o sacaba un ratillo en el sofá. Coincidió con una etapa en la que estaba algo estresada y descubrí que tejer era algo que me relajaba, tenía que estar concentrada para no fastidiar el punto y durante el tiempo que estaba tejiendo no pensaba en nada más.

Squares during the process

A couple of months later (I was not rushing it) I started knitting all the squares together. This was the part I struggled the most with. The tutorial was kind of vague so I improvised. I let an extra piece of yarn in every square (both in the beginning and in the end) but some of them were too short. Anyway, I joined together some of them doing my best aaaand... it was done!

Un par de meses después (tampoco tejía por obligación o con un deadline) me puse a unir los cuadrados entre sí. Creo que esta parte fue la más complicada ya que el tutorial no profundiza demasiado en ella y fui un poco a ciegas. En todos los cuadrados había dejado colgando un trozo de lana para poder unirlos después (tanto al principio como al final) pero en algunos de ellos me quedé un poco corta.

Empalmé un par de trozos aquí y allá y... ¡listo!

The yarn I used was Bernat Blanket yarn and my needles were size 8. I really like how it turned out considering it was my first, pretty sure it won't be the last one!

La lana que usé se llama Bernat Blanket y las agujas eran de tamaño 8. Bastante contenta con el resultado para ser la primera, ¡y no será la última!
